Qi Gong with - Suzanne is Minicozzi
About Suzanne Minicozzi- A therapeutic bodyworker who began her training at the Heartwood Institute in Garberville, California. Here she studied Zen Shiatsu Acupressure, Oriental theory, Qi Gong, Nutrition, Herbal Medicine, Anatomy and Physiology. Studying and practicing at Heartwood is unique, because it is located in the hills of Humbolt County in isolation from the modern world. This allows for an opportunity to become immersed in a healing environment, and focus intently on learning without the distraction of normal everyday life.
After completing her course of study at Heartwood, Suzanne traveled to southern California and continued to learn and practice healing arts in San Diego. In Ocean Beach, she studied Herbal Medicine, Energy Healing, and Meditation with Jane Richmond and John Finch at The Self Heal school. Her bodywork training continued with training in Thai Massage and Craniosacral Therapy at the International Professional school of body work in Pacific Beach. Suzanne feels that all her learning experience in San Diego were enhanced with the presence of the ocean. She felt inspired to practice and share her Qi gong practices as she passed numerous hours on the cliffs overlooking the pacific waters.
Suzanne has been back on the east coast practicing her fusion of these healing practices independently out of Hope, New Jersey for three years now and is continuing with a comprehensive study of Herbal Medicine with David Winston in Washington, NJ. She is looking forward to the opportunity and the experiences ahead at Dhaiyan yoga.
About Qi Gong - Self Care - Taking time to care for your mind, body and spirit is crucial in the world we live in today. There are many ways to ease the tension, stress, and anxiety we hold within ourselves. I would like to share some things that I have found valuable to me in my personal discovery of health and well being. During my education as a body worker energy became very real. Energy is all around us. It is important to recognize and understand that is does exist in helpful and harmful forms.
We can learn to work with energy to strengthen and cleanse our beings. There is an ancient self healing practice called Qi Gong that works with opening the flow of energy in the channels that make up the oriental meridian system. The words Qi Gong find their origin in two Chinese Characters. Qi translating into vital energy and Gong translating into skill. When the two characters are put together Qi Gong means "cultivating vital energy skillfully. Practiced regularly the exercises have proven to be effective and lifestyle enhancing. There is a Chinese saying, "where there is a free flow of energy there is no pain." Thus the idea is to get the energy moving evenly and smoothly throughout the body invigorating and rejuvenating the body at a cellular level.
Another way of working with this energy is through shiatsu therapy. Shiatsu bodywork also finds its roots with the ancient Chinese medical system. This treatment works with the same energy system as Qi Gong and Acupuncture. Applied acupressure is used along these energy pathways in the body to open and balance the flow of energy through the channels. Self-shiatsu is the practice of performing this type of body work on yourself. I have found this to be a valuable element in relieving stress and tension. My intention is to share a combination of these two modalities integrated with a select number of energetic exercises that will enhance the overall experience.
